Send an SMS from AIM (or iChat)
Looks like AOL has opened up an SMS gateway. This means that you can send a message to just about anyone with a digital cell phone. And if they've got Verizon or AT&T Wireless, they can respond. And hey, you're chatting!
To send a message using iChat, hit command-shift-N (menu item "New Chat with Person...") and in the screenname field type the person's phone number in the format "+14015551212". The "+1" country code is required although word has it that non-US numbers aren't supported yet, but AOL has plans.
For those of you using AOL or AIM, the above should work for you too. Just send a message to the screenname formatted as above.
